ne’s hair? Well, her style never really changes; it is as constant as her dedication to duty – and she’s the hardest-working royal of the lot. In the same way she wears her clothes over and over again without concern for trends, so she has stuck to the same face-framing bouffant with an elegant origami-esque up-d
In spite of all this, she keeps calm and carries on – a quality admired by the Queen who could not have given her granddaughter a greater seal of approval than loaning her a dress and a treasured tiara.
The beautiful story that is John Krasinski’s Some Good News YouTube show has come full circle. Like the positive news show’s inaugural episode, episode 7 brought us another The Office reunion, this time featuring absolutely everyone — from Steve Carell to Jenna Fischer to Mindy Kaling.
Social media detectives One of the best things about the return of Unsolved Mysteries in this era of social media is the fact that the investigation doesn’t end when the episodes do. Netflix has put materials relating to each case on a public drive. The drive includes photos of the evidence, unseen video snippets, interviews and more. Now you can look at that bizarre note Rey Rivera left taped to his computer, or check out a closeup of Patrice Endres’ missing wedding ring. I’m hoping Netflix adds more to this, because even though there are numerous clips for each case, nothing I saw there was earth-shattering — guess if it was, they’d have included it in the episode.
Inevitably, this led to tension between him and Andrew, who was very concerned that his daughters – the only two ‘blood princesses’ of their generation, he often stressed – might be deemed surplus to requirements and rudely sidelined.
From the start, there was speculation the two would opt for a low-key wedding ‘in the back garden’, in part to quell the disquiet over the taxpayer-footed bill for the security surrounding Eugenie’s lavish nuptials and growing concern over Andrew’s relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
A year later, the pair endured one of the most dramatic events ever experienced by a member of the House of Windsor when a mentally ill man attempted to kidnap the Princess, shooting four others. Anne refused to get out of the car – her reply being a characteristic ‘Not bloody likely!’ – thus foiling the crime. Royal biographer Hugo Vickers, author of The Crown Dissected, the manual separating the facts from its many fictions, argues: ‘Anyone who wants to know what the Princess is like should watch her recalling the encounter with Michael Parkinson. She was literally coo
After all, Princess Eugenie’s 2018 wedding to Jack Brooksbank was a dazzling blend of pomp, pageantry and showbiz with Robbie Williams chewing gum behind the Queen while actress Demi Moore and model Kate Moss were among those filling the pews.
But the Covid-19 crisis, and the 100-year-old Army captain’s colossal act of gallantry in raising £33 million for NHS charities, happily combined to spare the Royal Family’s blushes over what to do about the beleaguered Duke of York.
In the beginning, this was perhaps for good reason. Edo and Beatrice’s families have been close for decades, moving in similar circles. Indeed, Beatrice has spoken of their ‘similar interests and values’.
There may, too, have been other sensible reasons for caution. Questions had been raised over the timing of the start of their relationship – Edo had been living with his fiancée, Chinese-American architect Dara Huang, the mother of his son. But any suggestion that Beatrice had caused the split were denied.
The first six episodes of the current Unsolved Mysteries reboot became available July 1, with six more to come. The new show is being overseen by executive producer Shawn Levy of Stranger Things fame, in association with the original production company for Unsolved Mysteries, Cosgrove-Meurer Productions. Producers Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove, who created the show, are involved with the new reboot, and their 1980s baby is in good hands.
The show even goes international. For an episode that’s almost entirely in French with English subtitles, a noble family is murdered, silk printable invitations apparently by a father who won’t fess up to money issues, and seems to have either killed himself or gone on the lam.
Now, at last, Beatrice’s ‘secret’ wedding seems finally to have broken the trend of more and more costly public celebrations -although as one observer wearily pointed out this weekend, there aren’t many Royals left to marry off.
Before the wedding festivities, Krasinski’s wife Emily Blunt had a go at opening the show doing her best Krasinski impression, American accent and all, but lasted less than a minute before Krasinski kicked her out of his presenter’s seat.
Unsolved Mysteries is another perfect show for those of us spending most of our time at home due to the coronavirus outbreak. Businesses in my region may still be closed, jobs and stocks may be uncertain, but leave it to Netflix to remind us that somebody out there always has it worse — with the added benefit that ordinary viewers might be able to turn detective and help a grieving family get justice.
