UT Austin first offered Inside Design lessons in 1912, making it the oldest Inside Design program west of the Mississippi River. The Faculty of Engineering offered a 5-year degree in interior design for office Architecture in 1930, which was discontinued in 1938. A sole curriculum remained in Human Ecology from 1945 onward that offered an emphasis space in Inside Design. In 1973, UT Austin’s program became one of the primary accredited Inside Design packages within the country. The Inside Design major was transferred to the school of Structure in 1997, and it has grown and flourished since then, providing a Master of Inside Design degree in 2010.
