The Mathnasium method is definitely some sort of super special instructing methodology developed over 30 years designed to provide children genuine facility with mathematics. It’s been propagated all over the world in five continents in countries far less kiasu than Singapore, which you have to admit makes it sound rather legit.
Tell children that a frog has fallen down a wishing well that is 21m deep. The frog jumped 3m every 15 mins then has to rest for five mins (the frog slips down 1m every time it rests). If the frog began at 18:00 what time did it reach the top of the wishing well?
Focuses on the natural world?
Usually math is seen as coping with entities that have parallels within the pure world but don’t themselves exist in that world. In contrast to, say, ants or atoms, the quantity two shouldn’t be usually considered as a bodily entity, but as a robust abstraction that can be used to describe bodily entities. Alternatively, one could also argue that mathematical abstractions arise immediately from the pure world that the truth that two ants plus two ants yields a set of four ants is just a description of how objects exist within the natural world.
